The SV 104 Personal Noise Dosimeter Changes the Way Professionals View Noise Dosimeters
Can a Noise Dosimeter change the way professionals measure noise dose? The new SV 104 personal noise dosimeter does!
Occupational noise surveys have typically involved two general steps. First the noise survey of worker exposure using a personal noise dosimeter to determine if the worker exceeded dose. If the worker did exceed dose the next step requires the Industrial Hygienist or Safety Manager to use a sound level meter to measure the worker's work area where they will measure sound level and analyze frequencies. This process requires significant time from both the worker and supervisor.
Until now octave band analysis was not available on personal noise dosimeters. Introduction of octave band analysis found in the SV 104 noise dosimeter allows supervisors to measure noise dose and determine appropriate hearing protection with a single measurement.
The SV 104 noise dosimeter aids in gathering accurate measurements by helping supervisors to eliminate false readings. A triaxial accelerometer measures impacts and vibration that could register as false spikes. Threshold-exceeding noise can be recorded using the audio events recording feature to help supervisors determine if a noise source is part of the routine work environment by playing back the actual sound file.
